Machine Learning Workshop in Wagga Wagga February 2020

AutoWeed was invited by Michael Walsh and Guy Coleman’s Precision Weed Control Lab from the University of Sydney to contribute to a Machine Learning workshop focusing on Weed Recognition. Also in attendance were other technology providers from John Deere and Bayer, an array of talented researchers from Australia and around the world, as well as soil up perspective from local growers and agronomists.

The conference saw pivotal discussions between the collaboration surrounding the University of Sydney’s aim to organise and cultivate the collection of a large open source image dataset of Grains crops to improve machine vision based weed species detection.

Greg Condon from Grass Roots Agronomy organised several field visits for the collaboration. Various local growers in the Wagga Wagga region offered their experiences to the workshop team to learn how they’ve managed to apply innovative integrated weed management practices to survive and flourish in spite of tough drought conditions.
